Hooray! This year is officially coming to a close. Here’s how I’m choosing to celebrate this year – from the comfort of my tiny, messy apartment in the city…. Alone.
I’ve put together some looks that just scream Happy New Year from Quarantine and I’ll let you know what I would choose to do while wearing them.
Look #1:
What you do first thing in the morning is very important. It will set the entire rest of your day in motion, so you want to make sure you choose something happy and festive. My perfect New Year’s morning would include waking up in some fancy silk pjs and my new fancy silk pillow cases. The silk helps me to forget that the rest of my room is messy and that I still don’t have blinds on my windows. I like to keep things real around here.
I suggest having your favorite breakfast this morning. I chose not to cook mine, but maybe some of you are better at it than I am. The thing is, I don’t know how to cook my own Chik-fil-A chicken minis, or make my own Chin-fit-A sauce for that matter, so I improvised. That’s what Uggs were made for – to slip your feet into while still wearing your pajamas so that you can quickly jump in the car during the winter.
Pour yourself a mug of your favorite coffee – try adding cinnamon, because it’s the best. Maybe squirt some whipped cream on top and stir with a leftover candy cane? Idk. Thoughts.
While you enjoy your deliciously festive breakfast, be sure to pick some appropriate background noise – like a nice murder documentary or something. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve already picked out a fresh 2021 planner. I suppose I could fill out the holidays….. or other important events like: Taco Tuesday, Pizza Friday, etc.
Look #2:
Maybe you’ve moved to the couch today. I highly suggest continuing the whole lounge thing. I chose to paint my nails in a non-threatening sparkle that even I can’t get all over my skin, and even if I did it wouldn’t be noticeable to cry about. While you could continue your murder marathon while lounging on the couch, you could also grab a good book.
I am genuinely trying to actually read the books on my bookshelf this year. So, I’ve compiled a list of the most New Year-Friendly books I had. I don’t care how cliche it is – I need the inspo, you know?
Look #3:
So, I found these amazing rhinestone joggers that I plan to live in for the entire month of January, but I thought they would be extra special for my New Year cleaning extravaganza. I fully plan to watch the Office on a loop in the background for the rest of the day, probably. Netflix, you know what you did.
Throw on a festive headband like this one from the little girl’s section of Target, and BOOM. Festive cleaning for the New Year. I would also wear this outfit to run errands, because why not?
Look #4:
If you are in the mood for a little fresh air, a nice winter walk, perhaps – this lewk is for you!
Fun fact about me: I actually got really into the whole walking scene this year. At the start of quarantine, I, like most everyone else, was going insane. I hated being cooped up and needed to get out and do something, so I took up walking. Because I don’t do running.
I procured some wireless earbuds from the dollar section of Target and I started taking hour-long walks while I listened to my favorite podcasts. It has become the highlight of my day. In all seriousness, it has done wonders for my mental health and it’s something I look forward to. Plus – I get to wear all of my favorite winter accessories. I am a hat girl through and through. And while I will not be getting any forehead kisses this year, a girl can dream…
I am fully prepared to take this habit into 2021. Who knows, maybe when things open back up I’ll join a mall walking group or something?
Look #5:
Remember when we used to get all dressed up and tie one on the right way on NYE? Yeah, me too… I also remember wearing some tight LBD that requires you to freeze your tushy off as you enter and exit any open door from Point A to Point B throughout the evening… and nursing a nasty hangover the next day…
This year, say no to tight clothing! You can still drink bubbly in the comfort of your own home. I’m telling you, it tastes even better from your favorite coffee mug… or from the bottle. Whatevs.
Put on your fanciest nightie/robe combo, pull out your diamond earrings or that strand of pearls, and make the most of your evening from home. I know I will be. I’ll probably ruin my ensemble by adding a pair of tube socks at some point, but I’m single and I can do that.
Look #6:
I don’t know why I never thought to throw this outfit together before. It’s an iconic NYE look, in my opinion. And my grandmother left me with this rad fur coat that I should absolutely wear more often.
This was my grandma’s very first fur coat. She was so glamorous and thought fur was the height of sophistication. She used to beg me to wear this every time I attended a school dance in the winter. I used to laugh and say, “Grandma, that is so not the fashion these days!” She would also beg me to wear panty hose every time, but that’s a different story. I would give anything to go back and tell her yes to wearing this coat. She would have loved to see me in it.
I’m not sure how she would feel about me wearing it over pajamas and a sparkly turban, but I think she would be proud to see this fur living it’s best and most glamorous life so many years later.
