Hi, I’m Megan. Welcome to my blog.
I used to date this guy whose eyes would roll back into his head when I told stories. They’re long-winded. They’re filled with unnecessary detail by everyday standards. And I probably repeat the funny ones too many times, yes. But he’s a jerk and that’s just who I am.
But that’s why we’re here. I am a storyteller at my very core. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I get that from my dad. The only difference between us is that I also have an affinity for writing. Combine the two and you’ve got a blog. Do people even read blogs anymore? I don’t know… but I’ve been itching to start one since like the Millennium, so 20 years later I’m here to really pioneer the ish out of the industry. *joke*
When I’m not blogging or running around eating at local diners and shopping at local boutiques, I’m at Starbuck’s or Target like the basic b* that I am. Oh, and also I have a day job.
I moved to Indianapolis right after I graduated college in 2012 and I’ve been here ever since. I graduated with a degree in Journalism from the greatest school in all the land – Indiana University, and I have been fortunate to work in several media and marketing roles over the past 8 years. I currently work for a healthcare company in marketing and I am absolutely in love with my team and the job I get to wake up and do every day.
I love living in the city, but I also love coming “home” and seeing my family whenever I get the chance. I grew up in Logansport, Indiana – about an hour and a half north of Indy. It’s a small city with roughly 18,000 people who all seem to know each other. It’s a no-frill zone void of big commercial real estate and chain restaurants and stores. No, we don’t have a Target. The “fanciest” chain restaurant is an Applebee’s, and more people shop at Rural King than Lowe’s. Mom and Pop restaurants are King, and it’s a community that cheers on its residents to better our little city and to follow their dreams. There are new shops, boutiques, coffee shops, and small businesses popping up everywhere, and I can’t help but feel inspired.
My hometown reminds me of who I am and who I wanted to be when I grew up. In a sense, it’s the one place I can count on to ground me when I need it. Maybe that’s because it’s literally where I was grounded a few times as a teenager. Whatever. The point is, it’s an important part of my life and always will be.
I bring all this up because this is who I am in a few (long) paragraphs. I’m a storyteller, a writer, a small town girl with big dreams who loves her family and the great Hoosier State. My blog will always be a reflection of those pieces, and I am excited to finally have a place to put everything.
I love polka dots and whimsy in the mundane. I love truck stop diners and local eats. I love exploring quaint storefronts and wasting time slowly on a Saturday. I love small towns with character and big cities with endless things to do. I love telling stories, especially when they can make people laugh. I love common ground and believe wholeheartedly in being yourself. I believe we only have one life to live and we shouldn’t waste it.
I’m Megan and this is She Wore Polka Dots. All are welcome.
