Spring has sprung, and just like every season, it requires new essentials to have on hand for any event that may pop up.
I feel like basics may actually be the most important items in your wardrobe. Like, have you ever bought some random piece of clothing that has a loud, but enticing pattern on it and you know it goes with nothing you have at home, but you love it so you buy it anyway? Yeah, well, you probably need a basic to go with that, right?
I am not suggesting that your basics are the same as the basics that I require in my own closet, but here’s what I purchased over the past month. You might find something you like/need.
Classic Black Yoga Pants – Okay, so those of you who have a sister of similar size might understand this more than others, but my yoga pants just seem to disappear sometimes for no reason. And I’m fairly certain, even though she tells me she doesn’t have them, that she actually does because how does one lose a full pair of pants? Yoga pants are not like socks. OKAY, ERIN?! Anyway, I have a pair of Yogalicious leggings in purple from a Marshalls steal a couple years ago, and they are so buttery and soft, I decided to search for some basic black ones. Turns out these are not the same buttery material, BUT I love them. They are high-waisted and a thick, but not too thick material, and they have side pockets on the legs. They are super affordable for the quality. Would highly recommend these specific pants and the brand itself.
Nude Yoga Pants – I wasn’t sure about these, because, you know… flesh-colored pants and all.. but, I saw a bunch of skinny girls on Pinterest wearing them with a white sweatshirt or crop top and I wanted to wear them with a white sweatshirt or crop top. THESE ARE AMAZING. They are so soft and buttery, but also incredibly durable and NOT SEE-THROUGH. So good. They also sort of V in the front, so they have a really cute shape to them. Not high-waisted, but still flattering.
Cropped White Sweatshirt – Okay, I am OBSESSED with this sweatshirt. I am not 22, and I don’t wear crop tops so that my cute lil’ belly is showing. I wish that were the case, but it’s not. BUT, I have a short torso and also short legs to boot. I have discovered that oversized cropped tops hit in a very flattering spot for me. I am SO PLEASED with this sweatshirt, and I love me a good sweatshirt. This one is so well-made, and it’s thick. It has a raw hem so with the cropped aspect of it, it’s not overwhelmingly war. But, the sleeves and the material is thick enough to keep you warm. It comes in SO MANY colors, too. I will be ordering more.
White Long Sleeved Bodysuit – I like the look of a bodysuit with so many different types of bottoms. While I enjoy the front tuck of blousier shirts, I much prefer the look of smooth and tucked in lines. White tops are crucial for spring, and I like to have spaghetti, tank, short-sleeved, and long-sleeved variations. This bodysuit is thick and comfortable. I already own a red one of the same brand and it’s held up nicely. I think the scoop neckline is super flattering and I think it shows just enough skin for spring. This is perfect for jeans or floral skirts I like to wear this time of year.
Black Short Sleeved Bodysuit – I didn’t have one of these, so I bought it. I just thought instead of a regular black tee shirt, this would be perfect for skirts and to seamlessly tuck into shorts when the time comes. This is simple and, again, has that scoop neckline that I love. This is a thinner material, but I don’t plan on washing it too too often, so I think it will serve its purpose for this season.
White High-Neck Bodysuit – GUYS. This is the one. I am COMPLETELY OBSESSED with this bodysuit, and yes, I do plan to buy one in every single color, because it’s that good. I love the high neck, and I LOVE the material. It feels like a swimsuit, so you best believe it sucks everything in nicely. And I just think this is suck a feminine and sexy silhouette. I went with white to check on the sizing of it before I ordered more, and I was NOT disappointed in the least. Ladies, if you have a bigger chest – you need this bad boy. I literally don’t have to wear a bra with it, and I am well endowed. There is a pretty substantial shelf lining in it, and it’s actually supportive! In case that’s not enough support, I do appreciate that there are straps so I can wear a bra underneath if I want to. Ugh, you guys, I am so pleased with this. So simple and so perfect for so many possible outfits.
Black Halter Bodysuit – I have the shoulders for a nice halter top. I always have and I think I just thought since halters weren’t all that popular anymore that I had to forget about them. So, I did. And then this year I was like, wait. Why? I want to bring back the halter. So, I bought this one. The fit is really nice and its a super soft material. This bodysuit has absolutely no lining or support, but it covers everything and holds up so that I can figure something out underneath when the time comes to wear it. I actually saw some looks on Pinterest of black halter tops and printed pants, and I wanted to try that look. I picture this with black and white checkered pants and a denim jacket. So cute. It will also transition nicely into summertime.
White, Black, Grey Crop Tops – Okay, so again with the cropped trend. But I wanted all the essential colors so that I could mix and match with my yoga pants. I have a million workout tank tops to choose from, but I realized that some of the days I want to take a walk outside are not quite ready for sleeveless. I opted to try a few different brands to see differences in materials and fit, just in case I want to order more in the future. The white tee is a little on the sheer side, which is fine, but it definitely feels less like a casual top like the other two. It’s a soft, sheer material. Very comfortable. The black top is a little thicker, but definitely not sheer. This one has a little pocket on the breast, which I love, and the sleeves are cuffed. The grey one is the thickest of the three. For some reason I thought it had a pocket, but I was mistaken. Either way, I like this one a lot. It makes me feel like I’m wearing a guy’s tee shirt, for reference. Would highly suggest any one of these brands. Lots of other colors to choose from.
Workout Tanks – Speaking of working out, I also wanted some less dingy workout tanks to choose from, as some of mine were getting ratty. I found this awesome 4-pack of tank tops and I was sold! These come up a little higher on the neckline, not quite high neck, but somewhere between that and a tank top. They are very light-weight, but not entirely sheer. I will say, they show a lot of side boob and will absolutely require you to show your bra. Think kind of like those tank tops guys mow the lawn in that they cut themselves, but like, maybe a little less trashy.
