I used to hate spring. It was never really all that beautiful when I was growing up in the Midwest. It was always cold and probably still snowing, then BAM! then it was suddenly summertime.
Last year at the start of the pandemic, I was taking daily walks to keep my head on straight. While it started out chilly, I got used to it, and I loved having the ability to slow down and watch the seasons around me change. I fell in love with spring, and now I am HERE for it.
I love the fresh air, the colorful blooms, the floral scents and sites all around. It truly is the perfect time to make change in your life, to clean out the old, and to open yourself and your space up for new.
Now, I basically did my spring cleaning at the start of the year once I put all of my Christmas decorations away. So, instead, I chose to add a few spring touches to my little apartment to get me in the mood, and to just bring a little joy to my everyday routines.
After all, the spring is the best time of year to stop and smell the roses, and to slow things down to enjoy the small things.
Buy yourself some fresh flowers. This is my favorite weekend activity for any season, but the spring flowers are definitely the most beautiful, in my opinion. I grab Mason jars each time I take a trip to Goodwill so that I always have enough to fill with fresh blooms. I know some of you are like, but flowers die… and I’m like, so? I love waking up to pretty flowers and watching them bloom for a couple weeks. They make me happy, and they make your space look beautiful and fresh for spring. I like to pick bouquets to match each room in my apartment. Fresh flowers will truly brighten every space you may have.
Fill your home with fresh scents. I like to use that Bath & Body Works coupon that’s been burning a hole in my purse for weeks to replenish the candle and wallflower collection each season. I do love the fresh floral scents, but I also can’t help myself when I see the word “marshmallow” in any fragrance. Count me in.
Add a pop of green. I can’t keep real plants alive. I just can’t. But, I found these adorable little artificial plants and I loved the little white pots they were sitting in. My bathroom is mostly white and, light grey, and some black pops here and there. The green accent of the leaves adds a surprisingly chic focal point to my bathroom, and I love how it seems to tie everything together. These little guys were so affordable and took me 2 seconds to place them and see a difference in my space. I think you could find so many tiny spaces to add a pop of green to – bookshelves, tops of cabinets, side tables, or even larger plants for corners of rooms.
Add some spring flavors to your mornings. I was inspired when I walked past a display of spring coffee flavors at my local Kroger. I couldn’t help myself, so I grabbed the two limited time Starbuck’s coffees and tried them, and they are delicious and delightful. I also passed this Lavender Honey coffee at Aldi, and YOU GUYS IT IS SO GOOD. I love lavender in coffees and cocktails, so I was so excited to find this. To go along with my new coffee flavors, I also grabbed this Oatmeal Creme Pie flavored creamer (out of my parents’ fridge) and my new obsession, this Brown Sugar Oat Milk Creamer. This is my second bottle of this stuff, and I hope they never get rid of it, because it goes with everything. I know coffee doesn’t necessarily have to be a spring thing, but I was still drinking gingerbread flavored coffee from the winter, and I thought it was time to change things up. Spring mornings with a good cup of coffee? The best! My mom introduced me to these adorable cups from Marshalls last Christmas, and now I grab a new sleeve every season. These Central Perk Disposable Coffee Cups are so adorable, and perfect for on the go.
Stock your fridge with funs spring beverages. I am a sucker for grocery store displays. Even if the things they’re advertising aren’t actually new for spring, I can’t help but stop and probably buy all the things. I think it’s fun to have seasonal beverages in the fridge for when I want something other than my water. There were so many new flavors to try, so a snagged a plethora. As a bonus, they look pretty and now I’m stocked for when I have friends over or when I’m craving something refreshing.
Lather yourself in fresh scents. I like to update my bath products for each season, and I just adore Soap & Glory products for both quality of their product and the best packaging. I grabbed their fruitiest scents in grapefruit, fig and pomelo. I went with some body wash, body scrub, and body butter. They’re all super refreshing and perfect for the spring season.
Update your front door. I live in a dingy apartment building, it’s true. I will also admit, as of last week I was literally still wiping my feet on my Christmas welcome mat. I figured it was time. I also just have a really ugly door, so I tied the whole look together with this little sign my mother bought me for my birthday. Now my entry way is bright and cheery, perfect for spring. The mat is also perfect for a tiny space like mine, especially with my door positioned at the top of the stairs. It doesn’t stick too far out if you’re worried about others walking around it in a tight hallway like I do.
Slide into some fresh sheets. I only recently stripped off my winter, fleece bedding. I then discovered that my white sheets were, in fact, becoming noticeably dingy. I thought, why not buy some fresh sheets for spring? I wanted something white, but with a touch of something. I love the tiny black flowers on these white sheets, and the ZZZs on the pillow cases are darling. I grabbed these at Marshalls for under $20.
