I love polka dots. I honestly have for as long as I can remember. There’s something about that happy little print that makes me smile.
They’re fun, nostalgic, sweet, playful, and unique.
I don’t wear them every single day, but I’ve always had an affinity for them. When I’m shopping, my eyes are drawn to items decked in those sweet little dots. I don’t go searching for them, but they seem to find me.
When I was little, my mom made me these throw pillows for my bedroom. They were teal and magenta with big white polka dots. I loved those pillows. I napped on those pillows. They remind me of my childhood.
In high school I wore a polka-dotted ballgown to prom. It was probably the most Megan thing I have ever owned.
In a weird way, polka dots sort of defined my personal style. They represent me in a way that I don’t have to explain to other people. Polka dots are loud, but they’re also cute. They’re unique, but also familiar. They’re quirky, but feminine. I’m not saying everyone thinks these things of me, but they’re all aspirational descriptions of the style I try to embody in whatever I’m wearing.
I want to be super clear about what you’ll find on this blog in terms of my style. Yes, if I could pull off wearing polka dots every single day, I probably would. But the truth is, I’m a normal chick from the Midwest. Some days I’m dressed up and some days I’m just not.
I love clothes. I love styling. But I’m also lazy sometimes. And I don’t wear sample sizes, so things don’t always look the same on me as they do on the models and Insta stylists who make me want to buy things. I don’t follow all the trends, because I like what I like. And I don’t pretend to like what I don’t like.
I shop at local boutiques and I also love to scour the racks at Walmart and Target for affordable dupes to what’s cool right now. I love losing myself in Pinterest and recreating my favorite looks in thrift stores.
Some days I’m in a hoodie and a camo ball cap, and other days I’m wearing a giant bow in my hair on purpose. I jump between girly and functional in my everyday style. Ever since I realized how awesome I felt to pair some Converse sneakers with a flirty dress, I’ve never looked back. It perfectly sums me up.
I have no doubt that I will not be the most stylish blogger to ever do this – I have a feeling that a lot of my outfit choices will turn others off. But I can also promise that everything I put on will be authentically me. Hopefully you’ll enjoy playing dress up with me!
